Were You Afraid?

When you put me on a pedestal,
Yet held me at gun point
Made me walk on eggshells around you,
Were you afraid I’d see the acid in your veins
If you’d have kept me where I belonged?

This isn’t you, don’t be weak, learn to have some fun
Be better
Your words echoed in my ears.
Layering me up, with coats of precision
Not just feeding into my insecurities
But giving birth to new ones
Packaging them with the perfection you wanted me to be,
Were you afraid I’d see the reflection
Of your self doubt in them?

When you invaded me like you did,
Weren’t you afraid you’d lose me if you did?
